Monarchy cannot be an alternative to democracy..

UML politburo member Mahesh Basnet has said that monarchy is not an alternative to democracy. Addressing a protest organized by UML's fraternal organization Yuva Sangh Nepal on Thursday in the capital, Basnet said that now many non-political elements are walking around saying that they will make them kings again and this will not be tolerated by UML.

He clarified that the protest was not against Durga Prasa. Calling Prasain an anarchist, he said that this protest should not be linked to the movement with Prasain. He said, 'We have protested to raise the voice of issues of high cost, corruption, irregularity, and people's concern,' he further said, 'This protest is against smuggling, it is for the side of Nepalis who are being oppressed. The same is true for the justice of women who have been subjected to violence. It is for the poor people. It is for positive energy.
